The UFC
has added three prominant bouts to UFC 88 which features a main event
of Chuck Liddell vs. Rashad Evans. Rich Franklin will be moving back to
lightheavyweight in a matchup with Matt Hamill, Dan Henderson will take
on Rousimar Palhares, and Karo Parisyan will face Yoshiyuki Yoshida.
Rich Franklin is coming off a victory over Travis Lutter and has only lost twice, both to Anderson Silva in the past 4 years. It is unknown at this time if his move up the weight class is temporary or if he plans to fight in both weight classes. His opponent Matt Hamill has found success in the Octagon but has competed only sporadically. He is coming off a nice victory over Tim Boetsch in April.
Karo Parisyan will take on the man who choked out Jon Koppenhaver in May in a fight where both competitors are known primarily for their Judo prowess.
Dan Henderson is coming off two losses in a row, one to Quinton Jackson, the other to Anderson Silva and will be looking to defeat one of the rising up and coming middleweights in the division. While a relative unknown in America, Rousimar Palhares is an astounding jiu jitsu fighter and is the stylistic bad match up for Anderson Silva that could one day step in and challenge the current world's pound-for-pound best.
To get there Palhares will need to take on the very experienced Dan Henderson, this fight will either put Henderson back into middleweight contention, or send Palhares skyrocketing towards a #1 contention bout.
UFC 88 will take place on Sept 6th in Atlanta Georgia.
