Four bouts have been added to UFC 90 which will feature a middleweight championship bout between Patrick Cote and Anderson Silva.
UFC heavyweight contender Fabrico Werdum will take on UFC newbie Junior dos Santos. This is an interesting match-up choice because Werdum, at 2-1 in the UFC, is coming off consecutive victories over UFC heavyweight contenders Brandon Vera, and former #1 contender Gabriel Gonzaga. What a win over a UFC rookie would do for him following those two wins is uncertain but he is certainly on the title track. The question is this, how would a win here over a relative unknown here help improve his position in the heavyweight title picture?
Former American Top Team teammates Marcus Aurelio and Hermes Franca will face off in lightweight action on the undercard. Hermes Franca fought under the ATT banner for his early UFC bouts and a bitter falling out ensued between Franca and the team that saw Franca branch off with his own MMA team in Florida. This bout could be a heated battle with both fighters carrying their team colors, and careers on their shoulders.
In other action Gray Maynard (3-0-0-1 in the UFC) will battle veteran Rich Clementi (5-3-0 in the UFC). With Maynard riding a three-fight UFC winning streak and Clementi a four-fight UFC winning streak a clear cut contender should arise from this fight.
With only one UFC fight Shannon Gugerty (1-0-0) in the UFC will take on nine-time UFC veteran competitor Spencer Fisher (6-3-0 in the UFC). Gugerty will be in tough against Fisher and this may be a case of the UFC getting Fisher a victory en route to another crack at contendership status.
The full card is as follows
Anderson Silva vs. Patrick Cote
Diego Sanchez vs. Thiago Alves
Thales Leites vs. Goran Reljic
Fabricio Werdum vs. Junior Dos Santos
Sean Sherk vs. Tyson Griffin
Rich Clementi vs. Gray Maynard
Spencer Fisher vs. Shannon Gugerty
Ricardo Almeida vs. Matt Horwich
Hermes Franca vs. Marcus Aurelio
Josh Burkman v. Pete Sell
