Main Event UFC Heavyweight Championship
Brock Lesnar (265) vs Frank Mir (245)
Round 1
Brock Lesnar and Mir tie up and Mir goes right for a leg submission that Lesnar explodes out of. Frank Mir is taking short punches on the ground from a semi-cradle/neck crank, and Mir's face is already looking bad. Lesnar's power is evident in this fight and his physical gifts are making Mir Pay. Lesnar 10-9.
Round 2
Mir looks good to start the round firing off combinations and a jumping knee that landed, but his only offense of the night is not enough as Lesnar trapped Mir and his right arm against the cage, and dropped down ground-and-pound on Mir's face until referee Herb Dean stepped in to stop the fight. Brock Lesnar is not making any fans by fingering the fans and verbally mixing it up with a bloodied Mir. Lesnar's pro-wrestling antics after the bout go as far as him saying he is going to drink Coors Light, not Bud Light (the UFC beer sponsor) because Bud Light won't pay him, and that later he will "Go on top of his wife." Classy stuff.
UFC Welterweight Championship
Georges St-Pierre (170) vs Thiago Alves (170)
Round 1
GSP gets the takedown right away but Alves looks strong and pops up and gets right back to his feet again. GSP took his back and and it looks like he could have the challenger in trouble but Alves got right back to his feet again. Great defense by Alves. Both fighters look a little tentative. Alves engages in a firefight and gets scooped and taken down immediately. GSP's takedowns are the difference in this fight so far. Alves has a cut over his right eye. Round 1 goes to GSP 10-9.
Round 2
GSP is taking over this fight. He has him on the ground and is dominating the ground-and-pound. Alves hasn't been able to put himself in a position to sweep or submit. GSP's punches and elbows are opening Alves up and it looks like his face is bleeding in multiple places. Alves surprisingly popped up to his feet again as the end of the round nears. Alves is gutting it out but he is definitely looking the worse for the wear. Round 2 goes to GSP. 10-9
Round 3
Alves looks like he wants to explode here and pull out all the stops to start the fight but he is visibly scared of getting taken down. His leg kicks have stopped completely, and the takedowns seem to have completely eliminated Alves's best weapon. Georges gets one takedown stuffed but his second drives Alves back to the mat and the Canadian is back in control. Alves is using his power to get himself back to is feet, but you have to wonder if he is going to be able to keep that up for the full five rounds. GSP lands a straight right that lands and drops Alves to the ground. GSP follows up but doesn't overexert himself. GSP 10-9.
Round 4
GSP got the easy double leg scoop and goes right to the full mount with four minutes left in the round. Alves is in trouble but got it back to half-guard and looks to be out of immediate danger. St. Pierre went for an armbar but Alves was able to to reverse. GSP took very little damage on the ground and popped up back to his feet. Alves looks much slower and GSP catches a kick and drops him with a right hand and the bout goes to the ground again. GSP has the back and is looking for the rear-naked choke but the bell sounded. GSP takes round 4. So far it is a shutout for GSP.
Round 5
This is a fairly inactive round and thus far GSP has controlled the entire fight. Alves' cardio looks ok despite his previous trouble making weight but it is not enough. GSP gets the takedown and while he is unable to mount much of an offense of his own, Alves does nothing from his back. GSP 10-9.
GSP wins the unanimous decision.
Jon Fitch (170) vs Paulo Thiago (170)
Round 1
Thiago is throwing wayward hands with Fitch before Fitch drives for a takedown that he gets easily. Thiago grabs the neck and works on a arm-in guillotine and a Gator Roll but his awkward position against the cage works against him and he is unable to finish. Thiago works for a takedown of his own against the fence. No real offense by either fighter. Very close round, I don't know who to give the round to but I am giving a razor thin edge to Thiago for his submission attempts. Thiago 10-9.
Round 2
Fitch gets the takedown but can't really get much going in terms of offense. Thiago works his way back up and tries for a takedown of his own but Fitch lands a nice takedown instead. Fitch is working from the back of Thiago and is landing a few punches on the side of the head but nothing major lands. There isn't a whole lot of offense in this fight but this is definitely Fitch's round. Fitch 10-9
Round 5
Another rather slow round but Fitch gets the takedown
and works his way to the back. He takes the back but can't mount much
offense from there. This is basically a battle of control. Thiago keeps
working for submissions but just can't get the right position for
anything. Fitch is working on punching the side of the head from the
back and works on a rear naked choke/ neck crank but can't finish.
Good round for Fitch. Not a great fight, with very little offense. 10-9 Fitch.
Fitch wins by unanimous decision 29-28 3 times.
Michael Bisping (186) vs Dan Henderson (185)
Round 1
Henderson is walking Bisping down and looks like he has his right hand cocked and ready tho throw haymakers. It almost looks like he is telegraphing his gameplan a little too much. Henderson got a nice combinations and it looks like he has Bisping hurt. Hendersonis chasing him around the Octagon but Bisping looks like he has recovered and has gotten back on the offensive. Henderson gets the clinch and lands some very nice knee's to the body controlling the action against the fence from the clinch and Bisping tries for a horrible takedown attempt. Henderson lands a grazing right hand as the bell sounds. 10-9 Henderson.
Round 2
Henderson lands a solid right hand again, Bisping looks scared of the right hand and very tentative of staying out of it's range but he still seems to be circling into Henderson's power hand. Bisping is moving well around the ring but has not really landed any offense of his own. Bisping looks much better in the second half of the round and looks to have found his range. Henderson landed a HUGE right hand that knocked him out COLD, he followed up with another huge forearm shot on the ground that was totally unnecessary. Bisping is out for the first time in his career. 3:20 rd 1
On a side note it looked like the right hand that knocked him out knocked something white out of his mouth. I wonder if it was just spit or if it was a tooth.
Yoshihiro Akiyama (185) over Alan Belcher (186)
Round 1
Akiyama gets hit with a kick to the groin and he takes a minute ad comes back and starts firing hands with the much bigger Belcher. Belcher caught him with a straight shot and knocked him down but Akiyama recovered right away and stays in the pocket and surprisingly keeps throwing hands. Both fighters are throwing down and both are landing and taking damage, it looks like Akiyama gets the better of the punches but with Belcher getting the knockdown it looks like it could be close. Very good round by both fighters. Rd 1 to Akiyama 10-9
Round 2
Akiyama gets the takedown right away and Belcher is able to escape but inexplicably goes for the heelhook and misses. Akiyama regains the top position and now works the ground-and-pound landing some solid punches and elbows from the top capitalizing on Belcher's mistake.
Akiyama lets the fight back up the feet and and mixes it up well but both fighters are getting very tired, Belcher seems to be coming on looking like the fresher of the two, and lands some nice leg kicks to close the round but it is not enough to take the round.
MMARR gives Rd 2 to Akiyama 10-9
Round 3
Akiyama looks like his left eye is is really bothering him and the leg kicks have appeared to caught up to him. He is not moving around very well. Despite this Akiyama is landing the better combinations with his hands. Belcher looks like the fresher of the two and is walking his opponent down but isn't doing enough despite being down. Akiyama is still geting the better of the punching exchanges. Akiyama is waves at Belcher to get him to engage and eats a superman punch for his efforts. Akiyama gets a takedown on Belcher near the end and the last twenty seconds both fighters throw hands. Close fight.
MMARR scores the round 10-9 for Alan Belcher.
Akiyama takes the split-decision from Alan Belcher in a close fight.
