The UFC officially announced that Randy Couture will headline it’s first every foray into Portland, Oregan against former UFC heavyweight champion and Pride champion Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira.

The Rose Garden will play host to Couture’s return to his roots, a hometown of sorts for him and a place he trained and lived for many years. Both fighters are coming off losses, Couture to current HW champion Brock Lesnar, and Nogueria to current interim HW champion Frank Mir.

With the Lesnar vs. Mir fight set to take place at UFC 100, the winner of the Couture vs. Nogueira fight could put themselves right back into the heavyweight mix.

No other bouts were officially announced but it is expected that there could be other local fighters filling out the remainder of the UFC’s first foray into Portland.
