LAS VEGAS,
NEVADA (April 1, 2008) - In an an unexpected turn of events , Randy
Couture has signed a one-fight contract to return to the
UFC. The new one fight contract has effectively nullified their bitter
ongoing
legal dispute. The legal battle has been raging between the UFC and
Randy Couture (Extreme Couture) and sources tell MMARR that with the
signing of the contract, the conflict has been resolved and the two
fights remaining
on the previous contract have been waived. It is believed that Couture
has
received a healthy raise from the previous two fights remaining on the
original four fight contract,
and the $500,000 dollar signing bonus he received will not be returned
to the UFC.
The return
of Randy Couture into the UFC fold raises questions about the situation of Fedor Emelianenko. Representatives
hinted that Emelianenkos short free agency period could be over, and a bout
between the two fighters has been verbally agreed to in principal. It
appears that the mega-fight between Randy Couture and Emelianenko is more
possible than ever and the UFCs heavyweight division has more than made up for
the loss of Tim Sylvia with the signing of Emelianenko. The length of the
Emelianenko deal is unknown at this time.
On an interesting side-note, it is rumoured that as
part of the deal Couture demanded that he get more money than Emelianenko and will
receive one dollar more for the fight than Emelianenko! We will have more on
this story as it develops.
Update: This story is an April Fools Joke and is not true. Thanks for your comments...
