Due to what the UFC listed as a broken hand, Houston Alexander has been forced to withdraw from his upcoming bout with Andre Gusmao which will take place on May 23 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada at UFC 98.
After bursting onto the UFC scene with highlight reel knockouts of Keith Jardine and Alessio Sakara, Alexander has been on a slide of late losing his last three fights to fall to 2-3 in the UFC. Very few fighters in the UFC lose four bouts in a row and keep their jobs in the sports premier promotion, so it is expected that a loss to Gusmao would have been a death knell on his UFC career.
An opponent has yet to be named, but with three weeks to go before the bout it is expected that a replacement will be found.
