Georges St. Pierre Steps up to fight Hughes
UFC News

ImageGeorges St. Pierre has stepped up to the plate to face off against Matt Hughes on December 29th. Matt Serra was originally set to face off against his fellow TUF 6 coach but was forced to pull out due to a herniated disc. With the prospect of the 170 lbs championship belt potentially being on the shelf for a year the UFC has put together a fight that some would consider even better then the original fight! GSP is stepping up by replacing Serra and the UFC's official website says that it will in fact be for the interim 170 lbs title. The winner of this fight would presumably challenge Serra for the title when he becomes healthy enough to fight again.

The first time they fought Hughes was able to get the first round victory over St. Pierre via armbar in a championship bout that saw him win with only one second left on the clock. Up until the fight finishing armbar St. Pierre was doing well in the bout and he finally got a second shot against Hughes and this time it went his way dominating the fight before knocking Hughes out in the second. This will be the rubber match and will be the new main event of Dec 29 card that will see Chuck Liddell face off against Wanderlei Silva as the semi main event.
