Brock Lesnar is now a UFC fighter. For years the UFC was rumored to be
trying to bring in pro wrestlers like olympic gold medalist, Kurt Angle, celebrities like
Wesley Snipes and Joe Rogan, and boxers like Mike Moorer. On the Pay
per view broadcast yesterday, the UFC officially announced that former
WWE star Brock Lesnar would join the UFC heavyweight division. The UFC.com website quotes UFC president Dana White as saying, I dont think there are any other pro wrestlers that can make the
transition to MMA, except for Brock Lesnar, said White. And if you
look at his amateur wrestling credentials, his size, and what hes
done, this guy can end up being a force in the heavyweight division of
the UFC.
Lesnar is 1-0 in MMA having fought once against Min Soo Kim, winning in dominant fashion against a vastly smaller opponent in June of this year. It will be an interesting transition for Lesnar into full time MMA. His amateur wrestling credentials will come into the UFC as one of the best, but it remains unknown at this point who he will fight and how the UFC will bring him along. It is expected that they will give him some tune up fights before throwing him in against established talent. Lesnar said obviously I dont think Im ready for a title shot right away, but I
will be there, and Im not gonna turn down any opponent because Im
here to prove myself. Im not here to pick and choose my fights. Ill
fight whomever they want. I dont make the fights; thats not my job.
Ive got one job to do and thats to fight. |
