According to the UFC website Jon Fitch will finally get his
chance to fight for the UFC welterweight title against Canadian superstar Georges St. Pierre. St.
Pierre, is coming off an impressive victory against Matt Serra, and will be the favorite, but he is not taking anyone lightly.
Im gonna have to train hard and be very well prepared
because he may be my toughest fight yet, he told UFC.com.
Fitch on
the other hand is coming off a tougher-than-expected victory over
Chris Wilson, but has eight straight UFC victories to his credit and is very
deserving of the number one contender position. The
whole goal is to get the belt and be in the position where guys cant duck me,
run away, or say they dont want to fight me, he said.
The fight is scheduled to take place in Minnesota at the Target Center on August 9.
This word comes on the heels of news, former UFC champion Mark Coleman has injured
his knee and will be unable to fight against former WWE superstar Brock Lesnar.
Minnesota native Lesnar, is still rumored to be on the card but his opponent is unknown at this
time.
Also on the card fellow Minnesota native Roger Huerta will face off against Kenny Florian in a lightweight #1 contendership bout.
