Having lost two fights in a row and sensing the morale on his team is plummeting, Shamrock attempts to provide a spark by delivering one of his pep talks about how team Ortiz is at the end of the road and no one on the other side can beat any of his remaining six fighters. Who says you cant learn anything from a brief stint in the WWE. On the other hand, Ortiz cant stop praising his team for how much theyve improved in the past couple of weeks. The countdown is officially on until Ortiz presses the piss Ken Shamrock off button. If dropping the last two fights wasnt bad enough, once again Shamrocks team questions the lack of training theyre receiving, compared to what they suspect Ortiz is providing for his guys. It looks as though some of the complaints are not completely unfounded, as during one of the sessions Shamrock tells his team theyre going to watch UFC fight tapes. This might have made a bit more sense if he chose this strategy after this weeks fight announcement had been made and he was helping one of his fighters break down an opponent on tape. Shamrocks guys also stress they need their training to concentrate on improving cardio, grappling, wrestling, and boxing. Team Ortiz was still in control of selecting who from Shamrocks side they wanted to face as the fight announcement approached. Thus, Ortiz selected Michael Bisping from his team to challenge Kristian Rothaermel from team Shamrock, which was somewhat of a surprise as most of the guys in the house thought Bisping would face Mike Nickels as he had been mocking him earlier in the episode. Michael is predominately a striker but also has a decent ground game because hes trained jiu-jitsu since he was 8 years old. However, Shamrock felt Michael was a lot like Ross Pointon (a banger), so he advised Kristian to get this fight to the ground and pound his opponent out. Since Kristian is a jiu-jitsu stylist, Michal spent quite a bit of time working out with Dean Lister getting pointers about how Kristian might want to attack once the fight hits the ground. It appears as though word finally got back to Ken that his team was complaining they werent training hard enough, so he decided to call a meeting. Shamrock explained his coaching philosophy, and unlike Ortiz he wont break his fighters in the gym. Ortiz feels that if you have trained hard enough, your opponent in the Octagon wont be half as tough as your training partners. Surprisingly, when Ken asked afterwards if any of his guys had a problem, no one said a word. Nonetheless, Ken was finally now working out in the Octagon with his team, as he said since the numbers are smaller (down from 8 to 6) its easier to get in there and coach. When the second light heavyweight fight of the season began, Michaels sprawl was effective early on but Kristian was able to take him down. As Kristian pushed his opponent toward the cage in an attempt to gain a more dominant position, Michael used the cage to get back to his feet. From that point on it was all downhill for the New Orleans native, as he got hit with punches, kicks, and a deadly knee that opened a nasty cut on the top of his head, to compliment the one over his right eye. With 2:15 remaining in the 1st round John McCarthy stopped the action to have both cuts looked at closer, but when the fight resumed Michaels striking was very accurate and Kristians legs looked like they were on borrowed time. Bisping landed a straight right hand to an off balance opponent and that was enough for McCarthy to step in and call a stop to the fight. If Ken felt he needed to pump his team up heading into this episode, its anyones guess how hell respond next week with his team trailing 3-1, and down to 5 fighters. |
