With Tito Ortizs team having won the last 3 fights, Soloman Hutcherson felt he represented the best chance to stop the team Shamrock free fall and suspecting that Rory Singer would be the next fighter selected on team Ortiz, Soloman Hutcherson did his best to antagonize him. However, during Ortiz training session he confirmed Rory Singer would be fighting next but indicated his opponent would be Ed "Shortfuse" Herman. As for Soloman Hutcherson, after watching him through five episodes the jury is still out whether Bobby Southworth has been reincarnated in his body. Shamrock appears to have changed his tune from a week ago with respect to training, last week he said he wouldnt break his guys in the gym as he felt it was more important to go into a fight healthy. This week he was all about training his guys hard as if it were more important then the fight itself, and one of the casualties was Herman as he suffered a bruised back. The next day Shamrock was absent from practice (suspected flu) and Kalib lead the session. Just like in season 1 when the guys were allowed to watch UFC 50 live at the house, both teams were told they would be watching UFC 57 (Liddell vs. Couture 3) live on a big screen TV. Having trained under Couture at Team Quest, Herman was very interested in the outcome of the main event and took Randys loss and retirement extremely hard. During this weeks fight announcement, Tito confirmed Rorys participation but he threw a curve ball at the last second and instead of picking Ed from team Shamrock he selected Soloman. In an obvious attempt to light a fire under his team, Shamrock got into heated verbal exchange with Ortiz that required a number of the fighters to intervene, which resulted in nothing more then some bantering back and forth. Shamrock, possibly suffering from a brief case of amnesia was clearly the aggressor during the confrontation, as he seemed unable to remember the beating Ortiz gave him just over 3 years ago. Hopefully after July (UFC 61) we will have seen the last of Shamrocks WWE antics and maybe he can be reunited again with Vince McMahon. Leading up to the fight it was quite evident Rory had some obvious doubts in his abilities as a fighter, and needed Dean Lister to offer him some words of encouragement as Ortiz looked on in disbelief. While Rory was getting his hands wrapped before the fight there was no pep talk offered by Tito, possibly indicating he thought his fighter was doomed and he had made a poor decision/selection. As the fight started, Soloman rushed his opponent right from the onset almost as if he could smell Rorys fear. Driving Rory back up against the cage and then eventually taking him down, Soloman was in the drivers seat during the bouts opening moments. However, even though Soloman spent the majority of the 1st round in the top position, Rory did a good job of keeping him in his guard and constantly attempting submissions from the bottom to ensure Soloman didnt get too comfortable on top. Soloman clearly won the 1st round but as he walked back to his corner he looked completely fatigued As the 2nd round began Soloman got hit with a high left kick and combined with his exhaustion was dropped, Rory quickly moved in and finished him off with a series of punches on the ground. In shocking upset, Rory moves onto the middleweight semi-finals and gives Team Ortiz a commanding 4-1 lead heading into week 6.
