"I would rather be fighting Fedor in November." According to a story on USA Todays website in an article by Sergio Non, those are the words of Randy Couture in a conference call to promote Couture vs. Lesnar in November. While Couture seems to be speaking his mind, the UFC can't be happy about the fact much of the conversations turned to the Emelianenko vs. Couture bout that Affliction promoted their t-shirt's with.
The UFC isn't the only one bothered by the attention to the Emelianenko bout. Couture's current opponent Brock Lesnar had this to say. "You want that fight? I don't give a damn. But I'm sick and tired of sitting on the phone listening about Fedor."
Joost Raimond, M-1s director of operations, has been a part of past negotiations between Fedor and the UFC and also had some interesting things to say. The only thing I can say from our side is that we are open and willing to work with any organization to make that fight happen, and we've also expressed that to the UFC. Irrespective of who the organization is, we're willing to work with anybody to do that. The contracts that Fedor has at this point in time would allow for such a fight to take place, and specifically the Randy fight, so we're free to make that happen if the opportunity presents itself."
This could be a very interesting situation and if Couture defeats Lesnar, and even if he doesnt, the Emeliananko vs. Couture fight very much appears to be on the minds of fans and fighters alike. The full article can be found HERE...
