"The Spider" Anderson Silva defeated Rich Franklin again in impressive fashion stopping the former UFC middleweight champion in the second stanza of their championship bout. In other action Tim Sylvia outpointed Brandon Vera to step back into the title picture, Yushin Okami defeated Jason MacDonald in a decision, and Stephan Bonner defeated Eric Schafer.

 Rich Franklin will get a shot to avenge the
second loss of his career against the best striker in the UFC
middleweight class in Anderson Silva. The current MW champion and
former Chute Boxe member is set to defend his UFC title on American
soil in Franklin’s home town of Cincinnati.

MacDonald makes his fifth trip into the Octagon on Saturday night with
a lot on the line. MacDonald, who represents Pro Camp Sports
Management, squares off against Japan’s Yushin Okami in a bout that
could very well determine who the next top contender for the UFC
middleweight crown will be. On the same card, UFC 77: Hostile
Territory, middleweight champion Anderson Silva defends his belt in a
rematch against former title-holder Rich Franklin. The winner of the
MacDonald-Okami encounter will be at the head of the line to face the
champion.

 It has to be one of the most shocking events in recent MMA memory,
“The Natural” Randy Couture has decided to end his current relationship
with the UFC. According to a report by Josh Gross of Sherdog.com he faxed in his resignation to Dana White. It has
been a roller coaster turn for Couture who retired after a loss to
Chuck Liddell and returned to defeat Tim Sylvia and Gabriel Gonzaga taking the heavyweight championship in the process. It
appears that Fedor Emelianenko’s apparent signing with another
organization outside the UFC was a factor in the decision. Couture’s
fight purse was apparently also a factor in the decision.

 Missing few days to fight Rich Franklin at UFC
77, UFC's Middleweight champion Anderson Silva talked with the MMA Ring
Report crew about the highly anticipated rematch. "I think Franklin is
an excellent fighter and he has been showing he wants to return to the
top. I believe he has been training harder then ever", says Silva. On
the other hand, he says he is ready to retain the belt once again. "Be
sure it will be hard to take this belt from me", states the champion.

 Pride veteran and UFC newcomer Kazuhiro Nakamura
has tested positive for Marijuana. Nakamura is coming off a loss to
Lyoto Machida at UFC 76 in Anaheim, California on September 22. He has been fined $500
and suspended until December 21 for his actions by the California State Athletic Commission.
Nakamura was the only
fighter of the 18 that were tested, that tested positive for the drugs
of abuse. The results from the tests for performance enhancing drugs have not yet been revealed. This is his second appearance on U.S. soil.

Florian, coming off two straight victories, looks to make a short night for TUF 4 cast-member Din Thomas. Thomas has won his last three fights since losing to Chris Lytle in the TUF 4 welterweight semi-finals. Both drop down to a more natural 155 lbs for this lightweight bout.

 The war of words that took place on the internet between Jonathan Goulet and Mike Swick will have to wait to come to a head. According to the UFC website Swick injured his rib and will be unable to fight Goulet on the Ultimate FIght Night that was set to take place on Sept 19th. Dustin Hazelett will step in on short notice to take on the Canadian.
