The UFC announced Monday that they will be inducting two new members
into their hall of fame going from only five members to seven members
in one day. Joining Royce Gracie, Ken Shamrock, Mark Coleman, Dan
Severn, and Randy Couture will be Chuck The Iceman Liddell and the
late TapouT founder Charles Mask Lewis.
An interesting night of fights as the UFC made it's first appearance on German soil. Rich Franklin secured a close decision over Wanderlei Silva, Cain Valasquez defeated Cheick Kong, and Mirko Filipovic took out Mosthapha Al Turk. Click on for more.
The UFC made it official today that former UFC
heavyweight, and Pride Grand Prix champion Mirko Cro Cop Filipovic will
be making his UFC return against Mustapha Al-Turk. One of the best
strikers in MMA, Filipovics reputation as a top heavyweight have taken
a turn for the worse starting with his uninspired performances against
Gabriel Gonzaga and Cheik Kongo in his first foray in the Octagon.
Despite impressive victories over Josh Barnett, Wanderlei Silva, and
Heath Herring among others, his stock has dropped significantly of late
starting with his heavily publicized but ultimately underwhelming 1-2
performance in the UFC.
The UFC finalized UFC
101 which will take place at the Wachovia Center in Phiadelphia and
former middleweight contender Thales Leites has fallen from the number
one contender to a preliminary fighter matched up against journeyman
UFC fighter Alessio Sakara.
Former UFC welterweight number one contender
Frank Trigg has re-signed with the UFC and again finds himself in the
middle of a very stacked 170 lbs. division. According to UFC.com, Trigg
over three years removed from his last UFC appearance finds himself
back in the division he found most of his success despite spending much
of his time away from the Octagon as a middleweight.
Lyoto Machida did what no one else
has done before defeating Rashad Evans via TKO in the second round of
the Light-heavyweight championship bout. In other action Matt Hughes
defeated Matt Serra, Franki Edgar defeated Sean Sherk, and more at UFC 98.
The oft-travelled Mike
Pyle will make his UFC debut tomorrow taking a short notice fight
against Brock Larson in a preliminary bout. Pyle has been a fixture at
Extreme Couture and has cornered the UFC Hall-of-Famer in the past, but
curiously, never made the jump to the UFC until now.
