'The Athlete' returns to Octagon at UFC 72 Jason MacDonald earned the nickname "TUF Killer" by finishing off Ed Herman and Chris Leben in stunning fashion. And now MacDonald is looking to make it a hat trick of victories over competition from "The Ultimate Fighter" reality show when he meets Rory Singer at UFC 72 - Victory. Last week on TUF we were treated to what Dana White called one of the best fights on TUF, ever ever. Well maybe that wasnt a direct quote, but it certainly was along those lines. Now I dont know what Danas been smoking, but I certainly want some of that shit. Nate Diaz and Rob Emerson put on a good show, but their battle was far from the greatest fight to ever grace TUF. A matter of fact, I would say that this weeks brawl was possibly more exciting.

UFC 70, held in jolly old England, showcased its biggest international stars, such as the recently signed MMA superstar Mirko Crop Cop. Other international fighters on the card were former heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski and the Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 3 winner, Englands own, Michael Bisping. Due to the time difference in England, this international pay-per-view event was free for us Yanks and featured more countries than George Bushs coalition. Fighters on the card represented Belarus, Brazil, Australia, France, Croatia, Spain, England, and the United States.

There have been some rumors going around that TUFs ratings are sinking each week. After last seasons anticlimactic battles and pretty much drama-free household a lot of the buzz surrounding the show has died down. Although this season sports a house full of crazy mo-fos, the less than stellar fights cant seem to bring back the ratings. All that could change this week. Not only do we have a supposed great fight looming on the horizon, but we get to see someone get a colonic on national television. Thats right, we get to see someone getting tubes shoved up their rear end. Unfortunately for me, this will be the second time in a week that Ive had to sit through a televised colonic (I thank Penn and Tellers Bullshit for providing the first viewing). Hopefully next week will make up for it with lots of images that do not feature tubes and assholes, but only time will tell.

GEORGES ST. PIERRE vs. MATT SERRA Matt Serra shocked the MMA world! Who would have thought that Georges St. Pierres first title defense would end with St. Pierre lying flat on his back staring dreamily into space with a dazed look on his face. Anyone who predicted a first round knockout would not have guessed that Matt Serra would be the one battering his opponents face like a speed bag. Matt Serra finally got his promised shot at the welterweight title, his reward for winning the Ultimate Fighter 4 television show, and he made the most of the opportunity. At the time, it was unknown if Serra was going to face the freakishly strong Matt Hughes or the highly respected and technically sound Georges St. Pierre. The decision was made when Hughes squared off against St. Pierre in UFC 65, last November. That fight was never in doubt as GSP kept Matt Hughes on the defensive the entire fight and came out completely unscathed with the UFC Welterweight belt.

Spike TVs hit show, The Ultimate Fighter, is a strange phenomenon. Loved by some, hated by many, the birth of TUF was an interesting dichotomy of ideas. Take a mostly underground sport with a bevy of diehard über-fans supporting it, and toss it headfirst into the public eye through the most pop-culture of mediums: the reality show. Almost single handedly the reason for the UFCs mainstream success, TUF was originally a beacon of hope for the folks at Zuffa. In the most recent seasons, that shining ray of light has dimmed somewhat. Gone were the ridiculous drunken antics of Chris Leben, and explosive finales akin to Forrest Griffin versus Stephan Bonnar I. Hardcore MMA fans have been spearing the show with harsh criticism, some wishing that the show had never been birthed in the first place. Thankfully for Zuffa, Spike TV, and UFC fans young and old, The Ultimate Fighter Season 5 is poised to reclaim its former title of the best reality show on television.

Lately, the UFC has been preying on their Hall of Fame like a team of rabid telemarketers relentlessly calling a retirement home to sell over-priced appliances to confused and lonely senior citizens. Why? Because bringing a legend out of retirement sells a lot of tickets.
