"The Hustler" Joe Blaze had the opportunity to talk with former UFC Heavyweight #1 Contender Pedro Rizzo. Rizzo talked about his upcoming fight with former UFC heavyweight champion Ricco Rodriguez and about his future.
Joe "The Hustler" Blaze: Good to see you again Pedro how are things with you lately? Pedro Rizzo : Good. No complaints. I am training really hard right now. JB : I am sure you are getting ready for your next big fight in the UFC. Let me ask you Pedro how do you feel about fighting the former UFC heavyweight champion Ricco Rodriguez? PR : I am very happy because Ricco is one of the top fighters in the world. He was UFC heavyweight champion. Outside UFC he is known as top contender and he has fought lots of tough opponents and top fighters. I feel good and ready. It should be an exciting fight. JB : This will be Riccos first match back in the UFC since his loss to Tim Sylvia where he was knocked out by a punch. You are obviously known for your knock out power, so do you think he will try to strike with you? Do you think he may just want to take you down? PR : It doesnt matter. Striking I always train with my team. Ground I train a lot with my team too. I can sprawl good and I can defend if he takes me down. JB : So has your team and you worked on anything new for this fight? Any special preparation? PR : I am training with my team what I always train. Striking and ground always apart of my training. I am ready for all the positions. Whatever happens in the cage I will be ready. JB : Dana White has been really impressed with Mirko "CroCop" and said he would love to have him fight in the UFC to fight. Would you like to be the one to test him since you are the one of the best heavyweight strikers currently in the UFC roster? PR : I hope they can bring that guy.I would be ready for a fight with that guy. If I fight against that guy I will strike with him. I think I can beat him. I believe in myself. I can test my skills. JB : Your next fight will be your last fight on your UFC contract. Do you feel like your back is against the wall and you have to win or do you feel any extra pressure to impress the UFC fans to extend your contract? PR : This time no. I am sorry this fight is not for the fans. I want to fight for myself. I want to prove to myself I am one of the best fighters in the world. I have been trying to fight for the fans. I may not have another chance. So I want to prove it to everybody. Of course the fans are very important for me. They support this sport. This sport is my life and this sport supports my life. It is my profession. Now it is just between my team and I. My team believes I am one of the best. I want to show to them and myself that I am still am the best. JB : If you win this fight do you feel like you should get another chance at the heavyweight title or is their someone out there you would like to fight? PR : This is going to be my last fight on my contract. So if I win this fight a lot of things are going to happen for me. So I dont know whats going to happen after this fight . All I know is I have to beat Ricco. JB : I really think your fight with Ricco coming up is going to be a big fight and a lot of people forget that it is on the upcoming UFC Pay-Per-View. So I wanted to get you on our website to remind fans what they might miss if they dont order it. I appreciate you taking time away from your busy training schedule to give some insight on your upcoming fight. Anything you want to say in closing? PR : Thank you to all who have supported me. My team and fans. Marco Ruas thank you my friend. I think this is going to be a good fight. Both of us want to win bad and both of us are top fighters of the world. Thank you.
