Dan Henderson leaves the UFC to sign with StrikeforceIn a somewhat surprising development, former Pride light-heavyweight and middleweight champion Dan Henderson, has left the Ultimate Fighting Championship for STRIKEFORCE. Once expected to rematch Anderson Silva before the bout was scrapped in favor of Vitor Belfort, Henderson relinquishes his number one contendership to compete in STRIKEFORCE.

"STRIKEFORCE and its growing roster of world class talent will offer me many exciting fights and has the ability to bring many new fans from all around the world to mixed martial arts," said Henderson in a press release. " I am grateful to Scott Coker for the opportunity to help make this happen and for treating me with the utmost respect throughout our negotiations. "

Dan Henderson has been one of the most consistent UFC performers of late and although he last his first two fights upon his return to the UFC, he rattled off three consecutive victories over Rousimar Palhares, Rich Franklin, and Michael Bisping since, and was considered for a rematch with reigning middleweight champion Anderson Silva.

"I'd also like to thank Dana (White) and the UFC for the opportunities they provided me and I wish them ongoing success," continued Henderson. "I'll continue to watch their events and I hope they'll tune in to my fights in STRIKEFORCE. After all, I'm a true fan of our fantastic sport and would love onl to see MMA continue to grow."

Henderson has been public with his feelings that he felt he deserved more money than what the UFC offered him and will now be plying his trade in a much shallower middleweight pool in Strikeforce.
