 Pat Miletich Seminar Review
Its not everyday a legend of MMA comes to Northern KY. But on this special occasion, it was just that as famed MMA fighter and trainer Pat Miletich paid a visit to the Kentucky area. Miletichs student, Scott OBrien of the Miletich Fighting Systems of Kentucky, was able to bring Miletich to the area to help share his vast experiences and knowledge of MMA with the 25 students in attendance. The seminar was a two day affair consisting of 8 hours of personal and hands on training by Miletich himself. The first day had him working with the students, understanding the concepts of takedowns and working on jiu-jitsu submissions and counters. Everything from rear naked chokes to little tricks to catch wrestlers in submissions was covered. It was not uncommon to see Miletich working the room, reviewing each partners moves and offering advice to fine tune the moves being worked on. Day 2 of the seminar focused on the standup and muay thai aspect of the sport. He worked the entire length of the gym to focus on proper footwork and body mechanics, assuring blisters on the feet of the students of done correctly! Miletich also worked on boxing skills and understanding the proper technique to counter and slip punches. These concepts were the building blocks for each student to work on in becoming a better stand up fighter. Overall, the seminar was a huge success. Miletich was able to educate the students on multiple basics of boxing, jiu-jitsu, and muay thai, which we all took and can focus on in our respective gyms moving forward. His ability to educate and incorporate his own personal experiences and the experiences of his 45 professional trained fighters in his gyms made an impression on us all. He spent individual time with each student, laughing and joking, which made him one of the most down to earth and friendly fighters I have ever met. Miletich even drove 6 hours from Iowa to teach the seminar and immediately drove back after it was completed. His dedication to his students was second to none and I, along with the other 24 students in attendance, were all grateful to say we trained with arguably one of the greatest MMA trainers of all time.
