Former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz has signed with Affliction and will debut with the promotion at Affliction 2 on October 11th against former UFC light heavyweight challenger Renato “Babalu” Sobral, according to Yahoo! Sports:

MMANews is reporting, that Aleksander Emelianenko, brother of Top heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko, tested positive for Hepatitis B, which caused the drama during the weigh-ins at “Affliction Banned” and lead to Emelianenko being denied a license by the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC). Emelianenko was ultimately replaced by MMA veteran Gary Goodridge who lost decision to Paul Buentello in the opening fight of “Affliction Banned”. |

Fedor Emelianenko will reportedly defend his newly won World Alliance of Mixed Martial Arts heavyweight championship against former UFC title holder Andrei Arlovski at Affliction Entertainment’s next planned show on October 11th in Las Vegas.
The news comes from Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports, who has confirmed the bout, date, and location with Thomas & Mack Center director Daren Libonati, who has also stated that he expects a formal announcement concerning the event to come later this week.
Affliction VP Tom Atencio recently stated that he was targeting November 8th as the next date for an Affliction show. However rumored concerns involving Emelianenko and his desire to compete for Japan-based DREAM on New Year’s Eve may have forced Atencio’s hand. He reportedly would not “confirm nor rule out” the reported new date when contacted for comment earlier today.
Emelianenko, widely regarded as the sport’s top heavyweight, only needed 30 seconds to knock down and submit former UFC champion Tim Sylvia in Affliction’s “Banned” main event. Arlovski was victorious at the show as well, scoring a third-round knockout of IFL standout Ben Rothwell. Atencio confirmed earlier this week that along with Emelianenko and Arlovski, fellow heavyweights Paul Buentello and Josh Barnett would also be competing at the promotion’s next event as well. Keith Jardine (13-4-1 MMA, 5-3 UFC) will look to rebound from his recent loss to Wanderlei Silva when he meets Brandon Vera (9-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) at UFC 89, an event that takes place Oct. 18 at The NIA in Birmingham, England.
Jardine today announced the fight on an Albuquerque radio show.
The light heavyweight bout will likely end up on the night's main card, which currently features a headline bout between Michael Bisping and Chris Leben. Source |
