EDMONTON, ALBERTA (August 29, 2008) - The Fight Club 4 Retribution took place at the Shaw Conference Center with a double main event featuring kickboxer Levi Kump and MMA fighter / Kickboxer Nick Penner.
Levi Kump over John Laing
In the main event Levi Kump was impressive in dispatching of the durable Lethbridge native John Laing via decision after five rounds of kickboxing. Kump won the decision 49-46, 50-45, 50-45 unanimously despite the tough Laing putting in a durable but ultimately futile effort against the popular Albertan. Kump used leg kicks, ring control and conditioning to outpoint his opponent who showed flurries of offense but could not muster enough to get on track.
Kump was warned in the second stanza for groin kicks that resulted in the referee giving Laing time to recover, but despite the break he seemed to falter down the stretch and it would eventually cost him. A nice left hook by Laing was his best strike of the night but in the end it was Kump who was in control for most of the five rounds of action.
Nick Penner vs. Sandy Pembroke
In heavyweight action hard-hitting striker Nick Penner took to the cage against Sandy Penbroke in a lopsided three round affair. Penners powerful leg kicks were his go-to offense and it would pay huge dividends in a fight where Pembroke could not defend the kicks enough to fend off the eventual fall.
The Quiet Assassin dished out almost all of the offense in this fight and despite Pembrokes efforts, he could offer little in return in terms of offense and was eventually felled to the canvas courtesy of a Penner Leg Kick. The hard hitting Penner cruised to a unanimous decision 3 x 30-27 win which gives him two in a row following a misstep against Jimmy Ambriz at TFC 3.
