Fight fans still reeling from the previous evenings Sportfight event were treated to eleven more exciting matches from some of the toughest warriors of the Pacific Northwest. In the evenings first match, Eric Hooiman drew the towel from the corner of Curtis Williams at 1:05 of the first round with punches from the mount. Scott Trayhorn defeated Carlos Ibarra at 2:40 of the second round by verbal submission. Isaac Schaaf came out extremely aggressive against Zac Combs of Eugene, Or. As soon as Schaaf got a hold of Combs, he executed a head and arm throw which introduced the top of Combs head to the canvas. Schaaf would then achieve full mount, be bucked off, slam Combs again, regain full mount and get the KO at 2:04 of the first round. Kenny Daviss original opponent backed out, and Chris Clay stepped up mere hours before the event to take the fight. On their way to the Roseland theatre, Clay and his teams car broke down. WALKING the last three miles, they arrived at the venue 15 minutes before the start of the event. Wait, it gets better. He also handily defeated the more experienced Davis who is trained by himself and the street. Speed walker Clay by choke at 2:33 of the first round. Steve Morris got the early takedown on Troy OConnor, but got caught in a guillotine in the process. OConnor by choke at :45 seconds of the first round. Ocean Baker of Eugene, Or armbarred Cameron Cuarisma of Hilo, Hi just :19 seconds into their fight. Cory Devela spent most of the first round thwarting the takedown attempts of Team Quests Matt Armstrong. Armstrong would soon fatigue from his ill-faded efforts and take some punishment from the sprawling Devela. The second round would see Armstrong resume his quest for the illusive takedown, while Devela continued to defend successfully. After a referee break, Devela opened up with his strikes on the gassed Armstrong and the fight was stopped at 1:49 of the second round, much to the dismay of the chanting crowd. The Rumbles first female fight was perhaps the most impressive of the evening. Danelle Miyamoto of Pearl City, Hi took on Lisa Ward of Woodville, Wa. The ladies wasted no time and came out swinging, with Ward getting a takedown and grounding and pounding the tough Hawaiian from half guard. Miyamoto would get a reversal and attempt a solid armbar that Ward escaped, but then she would then give up her back, and allow the Dennis Hallman protégé to sink in the choke at 2:17 of the first round. Both fighters were well versed in ju jitsu, and the fluid movement on the ground was proof positive. With such a great display of skill and fighting spirit put forth by both ladies, theres no doubt well see them again. Jim Pope defeated Michael Garner by TKO at :32 seconds of the first round. Mel Locke of Camas, Wa defeated Brian Brittle of Oregon City, Or in their Superfight by punches from the rear mount at 2:27 of the first round. The main event was for the vacant FCFF light heavyweight title. Kyacey Uscola, who had wowed FCFF crowds with his explosive takedowns and knockout power, would do battle with the equally exciting and undefeated Justin Bergin. After a brief exchange to start the fight, Uscola would get a takedown and work briefly in Bergins guard, before standing and letting his opponent up to bang it out on their feet. Soon after Uscola would land the overhand right that put the shiny belt around his waist, sending Bergin down and prompting referee Dave Hagen to step in and end the fight at 1:31 of the first round. The new champion was humble in victory, but made it clear that hell fight whoever the FCFF puts in front of him. As he often is, Randy The Natural Couture was there, as well as fellow Team Quest member Dan Henderson. The next FCFF event, Fight Night IV, will take place at the Medford armory on May 15. -MMARR-
