Freedom Fight organization was presenting the second MMA card of their history, in collaboration with APEX. Promoters Pete Rodley and Alex Caporicci can be proud of this night, crowned with success. In front on a fully loaded place at the Palais des Congrès in Hill, was the second face off between Team Canada and Team USA. Each country was represented by a captain. The canadien athletes could count on Carlos Newtons support and Team USA was lead by the colourful Phil Baroni.
In the first chapter of this international rivalry, fighters of Uncle Sam had imposed their will by beating Team Canada at the count of 4 to 1. This time around, canadian representatives decided not to let the same situation happen all over again. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu specialist Wagney Fabiano started out the night good for Team Canada by beating Team Currans own Matt Fiordirosa by unanimous decision. With Nuri Shakir getting the TKO over Kevin Manderson from Winnipeg, the score was now 1-1.
Craig "Farmer" Brown set the crowd on fire by getting a TKO of his own against John Clarke, what gave a 2-1 score for Canada. Then Kevin Engel, from Finneys Kickboxing was merciless against Nick Rondinelle and then created a tie at 2-2. Engel knocked him out in the second round, after a flurry of power punches. Finally, the last fight, between two proud warriors would end the debate for the night.
Stephane Potvin and Art Santore waged war for three long rounds in a square off that has been won by the Canadian, not without the paying the price. Rude Boy allowed Canada to set things right. Lets bet that Freedom Fight and Apex will use the formula once again in a third edition. Photos and text courtesy of Ultimefanatic.com
