VICTORIA, BRITISH COLUMBIA: April 26, 2008 Local boy Hal Kreisel used superior conditioning and strikes to the body to wear down tough Calgarian Tory Paul for 4 rounds to secure the decision victory over his game opponent. Round one was the most competitive of the fight with both fighters showing off their speed as they each found their mark in the early goings. It would not stay that way however, and as the fight wore on Kreisels commitment to the body paid dividends as Paul slowed down as each round went on, while the local fighter was able to maintain his high tempo for the full four round fight. While Paul fought valiantly making for a great main event, in the end he was not able to put together the performance needed to win, and Kreisel was able to take home the victory. An audio slideshow of this fight will be coming to MMA Ring Report soon.
Ian Rozylo proved that speed kills using sharper, more accurate strikes and movement to keep his opponent on his heels and earn the three round victory over Scott Judson. Rozylo always seemed to get off first flurrying and ending with leg kicks and punches to the body forcing the much stronger looking Judson to use looping shots that never found their mark.
Local fighter Tina Derix was impressive in victory over the very tough jawed Melissa Reaume taking a hard fought decision over the well trained fighter from Calgary. Derix was strong from start to finish and after only a few exchanges appeared to sting the game Reaume. She used the clinch to good effect working knees to the body and landing solid punches and even a spinning back fist to mix up the offense and keep her opponent guessing. Reaume for her part never gave up, and came on stronger in the third and fourth rounds but in the end it was not enough as the impressive Derix earned the well deserved four round victory. An audio slideshow of this fight will be coming to MMA Ring Report soon.
Christmas came early for Ben Lee who was handed a gift decision draw with Criscarlo Chua. In an entertaining bout with an ultimately disappointing outcome, Chua was robbed when the decision was announced as a draw. Chua, the much shorter fighter, was the aggressor throughout the contest burying his head and throwing wild punches almost non stop. While Lee appeared to be working a sporadic stick and move strategy Chua was the better fighter on this night and when the decision was announced as a draw the crowd rightfully booed, as the obviously disappointed Chua could only shrug his shoulders.
After a slow start Adam Gabel dominated Ashe Mashresha knocking out his opponent at 1:47 of the first round. Mashresha came out confident and in the early goings looked solid but the stronger Gabel used his heavier hands to find his mark and flurry on his opponent until he slumped to the mat and the fight was stopped.
