11/5/05 Cleveland, Oh: As the sport of mixed martial arts continues to expand, Ohio is one of the first states to get behind an attempt at organizing what is one of the fastest growing sports in the world. As approved by the Ohio Athletic Commission (OAC), the North American Amatuer Fight Series (NAAFS) will kick of with the first of three sanctioned mixed martial arts events this December 17th in Urbana, Ohio. The current plan calls for three trial events which will all likely be held in Ohio and will lay out the proposed format for the series. We want to make sure that with some of the new rules and changes we are incorporating in to the series, that everything runs smoothly and meets the standards that we are looking to set. said NAAFS spokesman Jake Digman. If all goes according to plan with the first three events, we will then move forward and release the dates, locations and pertinent information regarding the entire 2006 series which could include as many as twelve shows. We will start with regional events and eventually expand to a national format. The NAAFS plans on utilizing a fighter ranking system that will lead to a national champion in each specific weight class and region. There are also discussions of one final show at the end of each season which will crown its new national and/or repeat champions. The idea behind the series is to showcase regional talent while allowing fighters to take part in fully sanctioned and well run events. At the same time we want to allow amateurs the chance to earn reward for the work and effort that goes in to each fight went on to add Digman. The series will also be covered and promoted by The on-line Voice of the Fight Fan PKW along with media partner SportstalkNetwork.com which is set to expand to over 20 new markets nation wide in 2006. Coverage from PKW and STN will offer fans the chance to keep up and follow the series with up to the minute results, standings, photos and interviews from each series event. A full line up and event details for the entire series will soon be available on Prokarateweekly.com. The inaugural NAAFS event which will be called the Midwest Combat Challenge is scheduled for this December 17th at the National Guard Armory in Urbana, Ohio. A full line up and event details for the inaugural show will be available on Prokarateweekly.com Fighters interested in participating on the December 17th event or any future NAAFS shows can send information to
