The Adrenaline Fighting Championships opened its inaugural event sporting a lineup that featured such American standouts as Chris The Westside Strangler Brennan and Canadian stalwarts Ulysses Castro, Jason McDonald and Jason The Sumo Samurai St Louis. His main events proved to be the best fights of the night and the remaining card was solid throughout mixed in with an amateur or two. The crowd seemed a little thinner than first hoped, but those that were in attendance were treated to a solid night of action that saw its main events live up to the hype. Chris Brennan Vs Jason St Louis Heavy favorite Chris Brennan had to work for his win and ate some solid shots on his way to the armbar victory in the first round of the contest. Coming in with UFC Veteran Pete The Secret Weapon Spratt in his corner, he was rumored to have worked hard on his stand up skills and was looking to put them on display for all to see. In an entertaining bout that was up in the air until the final submission was applied, saw Brennan abandon his desire to stand up and instead go with his formidable Jiu Jitsu top game. St Louis wanted to keep the fight on the feet and started off strong keeping Brennan off balance and off his game. He used his jab and sharp combos to keep Brennan at bay and kept his distance with effective strikes which forced Brennan into ill timed shoots. Brennans experience would be too much in the end however and eventually caught up to him. St Louis found himself on his back for the first time in the fight but to his credit St Louis kept his composure and reversed the veteran fighter, it was all for naught however as he eventually succumbed to a reversal to Brennan. In the end Brennans vaunted top game was too much for the Sumo Samurai and despite some impressive submission defense, tapped to the armbar late in the first round. Chris Brennan wins via Armbar 3:45 of round one. Ulysses Castro Vs Jason McDonald In an entertaining semi main event bout, Campbell River standout Ulysses Castro fell short of extending his unbeaten streak and lost to Edmonton native Jason The Athlete McDonald. In a back and forth battle that had more then its fair share of twists and turns Jason McDonald was able to withstand the early barrage and assert his will in the second round to win via rear naked choke. Ulysses started the contest strong and was able to repel the takedown attempts of The Athlete for all or round one and round two until he decided himself to take the fight to the ground. Pulling off one of the most impressive takedowns in recent MMA history Castro performed a picture perfect takedown from the clinch sending McDonald to the mat hard. Utilizing an affective ground and pound tactic, he was able to get to the mount and drop some heavy strikes to the face of McDonald, who proved to be more then just an athlete, showing impressive heart in the face of defeat. He was able to get the reversal when he needed it the most and took the top position for the first time in the fight, and out of imminent danger. His submission skills proved to be the deciding factor as he worked his game eventually taking Castros back and finishing with the rear naked choke. McDonald wins via rear naked choke at 2:49 of round 2. Danny Dlask Vs Cory Macdonald Starting off very quickly both fighters were very active with McDonald getting the big takedown to start the fight and Dlask working at a feverish pace off his back working and working for multiple submission attempts on the ground. Dlask looked very slick on the ground and went for the submissions even if it meant exposing his face and MacDonald took advantage opening up a cut on Dlasks eye early in the first round. Dlask was close on several submission attempts but MacDonald showed of some impressive escapes while throwing effective strikes from the ground. The second and third rounds slowed considerably as both contestants looked like they had spent much of their energy reserves early in the contest but MacDonald looked to be the more effective fighter for the first and third rounds while Dlask controlled the better part of round two. MacDonald does enough to win the contest on the strength of a three round Judges decision. Chris Peak Vs Marcus Hicks In the first fight of the evening Hicks was able to take the heavy handed Victoria product Chris Mountains of Mayhem Peak to the ground where he wanted him, but was greeted with something he wasnt expecting. Peak was able to reverse Hicks taking the mount and back momentarily, but Hicks fought back and retook the guard. In retaking position exposed his left arm in the process and Peak was there to take advantage. Peak took the arm of Hicks and worked hard for the Kimura eventually succeeding in forcing Hicks to tap out after fending off the painful looking submission attempt for most of the fights duration. Hicks grunted in pain several times before finally succumbing to the submission and tapped out in the first round. It looks like Peak has earned himself a shot in the rage in the cage event against wrestling standout and UFC veteran Homer Moore in a future Rage in the Cage event. Peak wins via Kimura at 3:00 of round one. Kim Forsyth Vs Linda Langerak The only womens fight on the night proved to be a short but entertaining bout. Linda Langerak who had Pain Peters in her corner was able to secure a Kimura shoulder lock after taking the fight to the mat early in the first round. Brief stand up exchanges were broken up by a clinch and eventual takedown and the takedown would prove to be Forsyths undoing as she succumbed to the Kimura at 1:43 of round one. Adam Lynn Vs Garrett Davis Chris Brennan product Adam Lynn was able utilize some effective leg kicks to control most of the bout on route to a tko stoppage at 1:21 of the third round. Davis started the bout off strong but looked like he gassed badly, and was unable to mount much of an offense after the first round. Lynn grounded and pounded effectively and kept coming as Davis faded badly as the fight went on. Davis did however show a capable heart and competed to the bitter end until his cornerman Denis Kang had no choice but to throw in the towel after taking some heavy blows with Lynn in his guard. Lynn wins via Towel being thrown in at 1:21 of round 3. Ray Doepker Vs Michael Marshallik In the shortest bout of the night, both fighters came out swinging for the fences in this bout swinging wildly with left and right combos that missed their mark. Doepker was eventually able to land the Big One sending Marshallik to the canvass and the referee in to stop the fight. It looked like the ref jumped in a little prematurely but Marshallik did take a solid shot that found its mark on his face. Doepker takes the fight at 27 seconds of the first round. Greg Murdoch Vs Jeremy Humphrey Murdoch was able to knock Humphrey down twice in the contest with punches, the second of the two looking like a pinpoint left jab and the referee was once again forced to stop the fight. Humphrey was bleeding noticeably and did have a large cut on his mouth as Murdoch was able to take the win at 1:17 of the first round. Jody Ingalles Vs John Punt In the first pro fight of his career, Nanaimo product Punt came up short losing to Ingalles in the first round of their contest. Ingalles look composed throughout the contest while Punt looked to be somewhat nervous coming out to the ring. Ingalles controlled the stand up and worked an effective ground and pound system till he found his opportunity to end the bout. The end came near the end of the first after Punt ate a big punch to the face that rocked him, sending him to the turtle position. The referee stepping in quickly to stop the fight and Ingalles took the contest at 4:42 of the first round. Baz Cunningham Vs Paul Forde Baz Cunningham was able to assert his will for most of the duration of the three round decision enroute to a hard fought unanimous decision. Both fighters had opportunites to take the advantage during the fight but Forde was unable to finish his armbar attempts and Baz unable to connect on his strikes.
