King of the Cage News and Notes
John "The Natural" Alessio was at the King of the Cage event that took place on this past Saturday. He spoke with MMA Ring Report briefly and explained that he was unable to train for his bout and was forced to withdraw and vacate his welterweight championship. He is working hard at his new job pumping concrete from 5 till 4 in the afternoon 6 days a week. He said he tries to get in the gym at least once a day even if only for an hour but has not been able to train full time.

He says he will be off for a short while longer and soon intends to train full time and comeback to fighting. Of the two fighters, Diego Sanchez and Jorge Rivera, that fought for his former belt he says “Neither of them are going to keep the belt if I come back to town.” When asked about the winner Diego Sanchez he also had some interesting words for him saying “He looked strong, but he is no Jason Black” John Alessio lost to Jason Black who is a Miletich Team member, in a controversial fight in the TKO organization in January of last year. The WEC has called as well and they want him to fight Gil Castillo on August 14th, it doest appear the Castillo camp is interested in the fight. When asked about a man that he beat recently to take the KOTC Welterweight belt, Ronald Jhun, getting a shot in the UFC before him he says, “I am just waiting patiently” as he feels he is the type of exciting fighter that the UFC wants and feels he is ready for the UFC.

There were several fights in the crowd during the fights. In fact after his win in the ring Joe Crilly got in a fight and knocked someone out in the crowd, after the KO he had his hands in the air celebrating his second knockout of the night.

Tony Berg defeats Gary Mendoza.
Berg took mount and wins from tap out from strikes from the mount 1:19 Round 1 in an unlimited weight contest.

Jake Gomez defeats Michael Paterra
Pattera who is Tony Paterra’s son, went for a takedown but Gomez sprawled and in the ensuing exchange K.O’s Patera at 0:15 seconds of the first round.

Manny Tapia defeats Michael Welty.
Tapia wins by knockout at :07 of the first round over Michael Welty after a seven second exchange Tapio KO’d welty.

J.R. Perea defeats Harry Rodgers.
Perea Guilotined Rodgers from his guard and Rodgers was forced to tap at 0:57 of the first round.

Frankie Bohlinger defeats Billy Sanders
Bohlinger threw Sanders down passed his legs and dropped some bombs from standing and wins at 1:40 or round one.

Thomas Kenny defeats Geroge Perriera.
In an entertaining affair Kenny threw a lot of toe stomps and at one point knocked down Perreira with punches and stood over him and told him to get up. Kenny wins via unanimous decision

Tony Paterra defeats Ron Cushen.
Paterra wins via Ref stoppage from punishment from the mount.

Joseph Freeny defeats John Delao.
Delao attempted some weak Takedown attempts but couldn’t finish the takedowns. Freeny had sidemount and dropped heavy knees to the body and the head. Ref stopped the fight at 3:19 of the first round. It appeared that Delao may even have been out completely. Freeny wins by TKO at 3:19 of the first round.

Joe Crilly defeats Paul Cid
After a standing exchange Crilly knocked Cid down, mounted and won by ref stoppage from punches at 1:26 of the first round. Afterwards Crilly got in a fight in the crowd and knocked someone out in the crowd and had his hands in the air celebrating.

Dave Rivas defeats Dave Hisquerdo
Rivas wins a unanimous decision

Richard Goodman defeats Bobby Gamboa.
Gamboa was winning early and when they stood them up Goodman’s knee appeared to be hurt and at first it didn’t look like he could continue. It ended up on the Ground and Gamboa surprisingly got guillotined from the guard at 3:17 of round one

Brian Sesma defeats Raul Delgado
Sesma ended up in sidemount and did a straight armbar at the 1:16 mark of the first round.

Brian Foster defeats Scott Sepulveda
Foster stunned Sepulveda with a punch standing, after some Foster ground and pound Foster eventually took Seplveda’s back and got the rear naked at 3:10 or the first round.

Wander Braga wins by decision over Joe Camacho
After two rounds Braga wins the fight unanimous decision in a fight with a lot of feeling out and not too much action. The crowed booed loudly during the fight but as the fight went on it didn’t get more exciting, and the fight ended up as a snoozer.

Mike Seal drew with Reggie Ore
This fight started with the fists flying in a very tightly contested battle, it ended in a well deserved draw.

Thomas Denny defeats Tony Llamas
Steve Renauld pulled out at the last minute against Thomas Denny and told the promoters about an our before the fights started. Denny got the takedown and followed with some strong ground and pound. Llamas gave up his back and Denny took the rear naked choke that almost looked like a camel clutch as he pulled his head up when he choked him at 1:33 of round one.

Diego Sanchez defeats Jorge Santiago
Sanchez wins a three round fight by unanimous decision and wins the vacant Sanchez looked a little stronger and although Santiago attempted a couple submission it was not to be for the American Top Team product. Sanchez had a nice slam at one point and got side mount followed by the full mount. He was not able to capitalize however and although he threw a few strikes and attempted an armbar, Santiago rolled out of the potential attempt. Sanchez did however control the fight from beginning to end and won the Vacant 170 pound welterweight title vacated by John “The Natural” Alessio.

Charles "Krazy Horse" Bennett defeats William Sriyapai
Bennett charged Sriyapai early but couldn’t find the mark as he weaved from side to side to avoid the onslaught. Bennett ended up in the mount but was not able to capitalize and was stood up on more then one occasion. Bennett picked up Siryapai and slammed him as well but was unable to finish. Bennett came out in a monkey stance in the second round, somewhat akin to the stance of the monkey man in bloodsport, after two rounds he won the fight via unanimous decision although it looked like Bennett did fatigue down the stretch.
