Indianapolis, IN- King of the cage was Indianapolis for the first time and they did not disappoint. With an astounding 17 bout card there was plenty of mixed martial arts action to go around starting with the main event of the evening that pitted local fighter Jeremy Brown testing his mettle against UFC veteran and Miletich Fighting Systems veteran “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler.  The fight began with both fighters getting in their fair share during exchanges with the more technically sound Superbrawl Middleweight Champion, testing Brown’s chin a few times by firing straight rights down the middle. The pace of the fight completely changed with Lawler landing a flying left high kick, which brought the crowd roaring to its feet. The Ruthless one began to overwhelm Brown with a series of knees from the clinch, one of which landed on Brown’s chin dropping him to the canvas.  He followed up with a few punches, and executed a textbook armbar to secure the victory. Brown let be known after the fight that he was knocked totally unconscious from the knee, and regained consciousness while his arm was straightened out by Lawler. 

In one of the co-main events UFC Veteran Gideon Ray won in dominating fashion, defeating Trevor Garrett, who is coming off a huge upset win over another UFC veteran “Chainsaw” Charles McCarthy .  Ray’s grappling ability and strength seemed to be too much for Garrett, who tapped out to a rear naked choke at 2:17 into the first round.  

Clay Guida, of Gilbert Grappling, extended his winning streak to 14 after defeating Dave Cochran.  Guida went straight in for the takedown and executed a solid ground and pound strategy before taking Cochran’s back.  Cochran fought the choke off for as long as he could, but Guida eventually sunk it tightly to secure the victory at 2:26 of round 1.  When Guida was asked what to expect of his next fight which is at an XKK show near Chicago, he simply stated “Number 15.”

In another exciting fight featuring the lighter weight fighters, Jason Reinhardt remained undefeated as he walked through Brad Cotrell.  Reinhardt marched Cotrell around the cage at one point and executed a running slam, which set up a series of unanswered strikes that led Reinhardt to the 1st round win. When asked the importance of being undefeated he stated, “Although I’m undefeated, I like what Matt Hughes said best, ’Your only undefeated until you get beat,’ I want to win a title.” 

This was the first time Monte Cox has co-promoted a King of the Cage event and there are talks of him doing more for King of the Cage shows in the future and possibly a PPV in February.
