According to Sherdog.com Affliction has
rescheduled their Oct 11 event for January at the Honda Center in
Anaheim, California. The shuffle fuels speculation that the promotion
lost millions of dollars on their first event and unwilling to lose so much
again. The first event took place in July to much fanfare with the return of #1 ranked heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko, and despite a solid show in the ring, the promotion was well criticized by pundits who felt the promotion would soon falter with the inflated fighter salaries to blame.
As of this writing the Affliction website continues to advertise the event as taking place on October 11, despite the fact Nevada State Athletic Commission Executive Director Keith Kizer confirmed the recheduling of the event. Despite Affliction's strong brand recognition among their clothing line, Andrei Arlovski and Josh Barnett appear unable to push enough ticket sales for the event to turn a profit. This furthur strengthens the UFC's position of pushing the brand as much, or more that the fighter when promoting the bouts. |
