In the fifth episode, Baby Balls follows Matt to his bi-weekly muscle conditioning at a local high school. The workout, a “fighting matrix” developed specifically for MMA training by gym coach Allen Spindell, is basically an hour-long punishment session involving weight-lifting, pull-ups, push-ups, hammer throws, running up and down eight flights of stairs three times, and a warm-up that’s heavier than most people’s entire exercise routines.

In this episode, Baby Balls returns to Matt Ruskin’s place to watch his previous three fights on his computer. The two talk about the history of the sport, its persistent image problems, and Matt’s stint in Iraq as a Marine.

In part 3, Baby Balls accompanies Matt to his tri-weekly boxing practice at Gleason’s Gym in Brooklyn. Mike, Matt’s striking instructor and corner guy for this match, explains the standing side of MMA to Balls and literally shows him the ropes.
