After two entertaining shows in Illinois, the Extreme Challenge held it's first show in Iowa City. The first ever MMA event in Iowa City was held a couple miles south of campus in the parking lot of a sponsor. Held underneath a circus like tent that was needed to shelter the crowd from the rain that fell for two days, some had to walk through puddles to get to their seats, and everyone had to sprint through sporadic, heavy rain just to reach the portable johns.

Arnold "The Sushiboy" Lim was in Quebec to take in the TKO 13 event and brings us the full photo gallery of the event. Even though St. Pierre was forced to drop out of the fight on late notice the event was an entertaining one and has it's fair share of upsets and excitement.

The New and improved UCC/TKO organization had a lot to live up to. With a previous show that was entertaining and packed with big name fighters, UCC 12 was a huge success, or was it? With the problems that plagued it outside of the ring the UCC organization had a black mark that would change it's name forever. It would seem with such a entertaining show behind the UCC organization, their strength would be growing by the day, but unfortunately that was not the case. The problems went public very quickly and the UCC organization had its previously strong name wading in the mud, now 8 months later, would the TKO organization have what it took to build on the strength of the fights that took place in the ring and not the fights that took place outside it? Would they be able do it without a their original main event in Pete Spratt Vs Georges St Pierre? With a new organization and a lot of hype to live up to it was time to put, up or shut up and put up they did.

"Hi. We were told that we were supposed to get wristbands. Our son is fighting today." After being greeted by a swarm of San Jacinto's infamous flies all I could think about was how much I hated waiting in line in sunny humid weather. That is
until I started eavesdropping on the conversation in front of me. "We're Mr. and Mrs. Alessio, John Alessio's parents. I even brought his gear." She gestured to a plastic bag filled with his fight garb.

The TKO organization has undergone a major metamorphosis of late and the result of all the hard work is TKO 13 Ultimate Rush. A whopping 18 bouts are scheduled for the huge card. The reason for the abnormally large number of fights is that the former UCC organization used to run a feeder show called the "Proving Grounds" a show that would be equivalent to Pride having it's "The Best" show, now TKO has amalgamated the two shows with the B Show running first on the same night and the Main show right afterwards. The name Ultimate Rush comes from the main event fighter and UCC staple Georges Rush St Pierre, who will be in the biggest fight of his career against the very formidable UFC veteran Pete The Secret Weapon Spratt.

In the cold reality of our beloved sport of mixed martial arts when is it O.K to tap out? When is it O.K for your corner man to throw in the towel? Is it only "O.K" when you are in a position that you have absolutely no chance of escaping, and the ref doesn't seem to want to step in? Is it ever OK?

Two weeks and the width of Illinois is all it took for MMA fans to get the next installment of the Extreme Challenge. Behind the strength of a successful EC 51 show, St. Charles, gave way to the District of Rock Island, where the next installment of the Extreme Challenge would come to be. Located on the Mississippi River, the Districts summers are usually packed with outdoor festivals featuring art and music, but this night an outdoor ring in the pedestrian plaza and an 11-fight line up would be the focus of attention.

There is nothing that I can say about this show that has not already been said. Without a doubt it is the biggest show of the year and on paper is arguably the strongest card in the short history of our sport. I think we all owe the Pride organization a big Ärigato for putting together such a strong Grand Prix. Love them or leave them, this Pride card makes up for almost all the past insubordination that they have ever passed off as a fair fight.
