Fight # 1 Kazushi Sakuraba vs. Elvis Nino Schembri This is the rematch. Finally Pride and Sakuraba have come to their senses. Instead of putting Sakuraba in against a moribund of bigger younger athletes in the hopes of erasing losses of the past, they are putting on a match that makes sense for both Pride and Sakuraba. Schembri, while a skilled Jiu Jitsu practitioner and legitimate fighter, is less imposing then his new teammate and three time Sakuraba dance partner Vanderlei Silva.

Ken Shamrock is looking to redeem himself after a lackluster appearance at UFC 40a fight where he was defeated soundly by Tito Ortiz. He will be in tough against a man that could be 30 pounds bigger then he is and we are not talking about flab here. Kimo is a heavily chiseled individual who has spent some time in K-1 of late. The word on the street is that Shamrock worked extensively on his hands and it could pay big dividends here as his takedown defense should be sharper then Kimo's takedowns. Kimo's size and strength could play against him in the later rounds, if it gets that far and down the stretch I feel Shamrock will have slightly better wind and find Kimo's chin in round 2, when Kimo's cardio is faltering.

K-1 Bows to Kyokushin TOKYO, May 30, 2004 -- Kyokushin Karate fighters overwhelmed their K-1 opponents, winning all seven matchups in a unique fight event at the historic Budokan in central Tokyo. "Ichigeki" ("decisive strike") featured a K-1 vs Kyokushin format. Seminal to K-1's development, Kyokushin is the ne plus ultra of karate styles, demanding unparalleled dedication to the development of spiritual and physical strength. Explained Kyokushin originator Mas Oyama (1923-1994): "One thousand days of training, a beginner; ten thousand days of training, a master". Today, dojos and practitioners all over the world comprise the Kyokushin Family.

On May 29th, the Northern Kentucky Reality Fighting Championships stampeded its way into Holmes high School in Covington, KY. The show, was put together by promoter Adam Brown and matchmaker Dustin Ware, consisted of 11 evenly matched bouts. With much anticipation, the fights got under way and I was there, to bring to the readers a review of one of the better amateur shows that I have seen.
