In the main event of the evening, former MMA Bad Boy Bobby Hoffman stepped up on less than 2 weeks notice to take on the 300 lb. plus Eric Pele for the KOTC unlimited belt. Both fighters looked to land from the clinch using knees and dirty boxing, with not much landing. Towards the end of the first round, Hoffman nearly finished Pele with a takedown and strikes from the side mount, but the bell proved to be Peles best friend as he was saved in the first.

NEW YORK, NY, May 3, 2005 - Spike TV and The Ultimate Fighting Championship® organization have agreed to a two-year strategic partnership, it was announced jointly today by Doug Herzog, President, Spike TV and Dana White, President, Zuffa, LLC d/b/a Ultimate Fighting Championship®. The main components of the deal are new seasons of the highly-rated reality series, The Ultimate Fighter, which will premiere Monday, August 22 at 11:00pm ET/PT. In addition the deal includes six LIVE fight cards - two this year and four in '06. The announcement comes on the heels of the finale of The Ultimate Fighter which drew 2.6 million viewers and more Men 18-34 than CBS's Masters golf tournament coverage on Saturday, April 9.

The winner of The Ultimate Fighter in the light heavyweight class will be in action at UFC 53 against a man that is considered by most to be the best Light Heavyweight in Canada, Bill The Butcher Mahood. Forrest Griffen is coming off of consecutive victories over Sam Hoger and Stephan Bonner on the T.V highlighted by the latter bout which took place on the final episode of the TV show and is considered to be one of the greatest fights in UFC history. Before his two wins he was at a crossroads of sorts, and in semi retirement until he got the call to be on the show.
