Jimmy Ambriz gets shot at MFC heavyweight title It will truly be a clash of powerful forces when the Maximum Fighting Championship puts its heavyweight title on the line at MFC 12 High Stakes. With Scott Punk Haole Junk already signed, the main event became even bigger when Jimmy The Titan Ambriz stepped up to challenge for the prestigious belt on Friday, June 22 at the Shaw Conference Centre in Edmonton. Ambriz quickly accepted the fight with Junk after original opponent Wade Shipp backed out due to a questionable injury. Ambriz, who hails from Huntington Beach, California, is coming to fight with his eyes firmly on the big prize. The MFC title would mean a great deal to me, said Ambriz. Im absolutely excited about this fight and I will be ready. Scott Junk is a very reputable opponent and its nothing personal and Im not looking to take him down a notch. But unfortunately there can be only one winner and the winner and champion is going to be me. Ambriz has very solid record that includes an eight-fight winning streak. As testament to his willingness to face the best anywhere in the world, he has fought former UFC champions Josh Barnett and Ricco Rodriguez (a common opponent with Junk) along with UFC The Ultimate Fighter reality show star Dan Christison, K-1 Grand Prix champion Jerome LeBanner and Pride standout Ron Waterman. Ambriz is a complete and well-rounded fighter with four of his wins coming by knockout and six via submission. With the MFC title at stake, Ambriz is aiming for a furious finish. Scotts going to be in shape and hes going to look to wrestle. I want to keep it standing and I know he cant keep up with my punching. Its going to make for an exciting fight, said Ambriz. Ford tough added to High Stakes Ryan Ford, the son of former Canadian boxing icon Al Ford, will make his mixed martial arts debut at MFC 12 High Stakes when he takes on Aaron Gallant in a featured welterweight bout. Ford brings a wealth of boxing knowledge to the MFC ring, but he has proven not to be merely a one-dimensional fighter. In training sessions, Ford has shown a strong grasp of submission and ground skills and has soaked up as much information as possible with his more-seasoned practice partners. |
