MFC signs former WWE star Bobby Lashley

Highly-touted MMA prospect, and former WWE performer Bobby “The Dominator” Lashley has signed on to join the Maximum Fighting Championship and will debut at MFC 21 “Hard Knocks” at the River Cree Resort and Casino in Enoch, Alberta.

Listed at six-foot-three and 265 pounds, Lashley is coming in off a decision victory over the experienced - but undersized - Jason Guida on a hybrid MMA card put on by Roy Jones Jr. in March. Sporting a fledgling record of 2-0 in professional MMA, Lashley is best known for his days in the WWE but holds solid amateur wrestling credentials taking the NAIA college championship on two occasions, and could be cut in the mould of current UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar.

While Lashley doesn’t have the amateur or WWE credentials of Lesnar, Lashley is highly regarded by some organizations as a charismatic up-and-coming heavyweight in a notoriously thin division.

“Bobby Lashley is a phenomenal athlete and a very impressive fighter who wants to make a big name for himself in mixed martial arts,” said MFC President Mark Pavelich in a release. “He is a very exciting prospect and he will get a monumental opportunity to break into the spotlight at MFC 21.”

He will face off against relative unknown Mike Cook who owns a victory over K-1 veteran Carter Williams but also has losses to Daniel Puder and Ruban Villareal on his resume.

MFC 21 takes place in Enoch, Alberta at the River Cree Resort and Casino on May 15 and the event will be broadcast live on HDNet.
