Maximum Fighting Championships Unplugged 3 Report and Photo's
In an entertaining night of fights the Maximum Fighting Championships 3rd Unplugged event proved to be a success with a full house of approximately 1000 fans packed into the Crown Plaza Hotel in Downtown Edmonton taking in the event, that saw a controversial main event close out a solid night of fights. In the main event Scott Junk made his first foray onto Canadian Soil taking on the game Dominic Richard. In the early goings Richard looked to be in control landing a solid punch that appeared to stun the burly Hawaiian. Junk would not waver however and tied the fight up only to be thrown by a beautifully executed hip toss by Richard who at this point looked to be well on his way. Junk was patient however and after sprawling out on Junk, Richard threw an illegal knee to the head of his downed opponent and was deducted a point for the foul. At one point both fighters plummeted out of the ring off a tie up and fell to the floor below where a melee ensued and the corners collected near Richards corner and Scott Junk told MMA Ring Report that he felt punches from behind him, Richards father was allegedly punching him during the scrimmage outside the ring! The fight restarted and both fighters threw punches and tied up and after a few more near falls outside the ring Junk took the fight to the mat and manoeuvred his way to the full mount where he dropped punches down on Richard until he verbally submitted and the referee stepped in to halt the bout. It was a wild end to a fight that paved the way for Junk to fight for the MFC heavyweight title on June 22nd against an as yet unknown opponent. Ryan McGilliray pushed his record to 4 wins with no losses taking the undefeated moniker off of Kyle Ayottes previously unblemished record in impressive fashion taking the fight to the mat, making his way to the mount and pounding his opponent until an arm became available and finished with an armbar in the first round. Garrett Curran survived a gash from an elbow near the end of the first round to take out Josh Kyrejto via Rear Naked Choke at 3:28 of the 3rd round in what was the fight of the night in a back and forth battle that had the crowd cheering wildly. Ryan Heck stayed out of MacDonalds heavy hands and was able to take the fight to the mat and finish his opponent with a rear naked choke at 0:53 of Rd 1. Local Favourite Kevin Dolan defeated Dave Pogson via a rear naked choke reversed over with Dolan choking from the top position. In other action Ryan Jimmo grounded and pounded his way over Duane Lewis and took a Unanimous Decision over 3 rounds. Sean Wright took out Tim Kelly via rear naked choke, rattling his opponent with a punch and took the back of Kelly and cinched in the choke at :45 seconds of the first staza. Local Police officer Ryan Lawley did enough to take out Tim Blanchard via Unanimous Decision over 3 rounds. Mike Sorenson defeated Mike Tubbs via Decision despite losing the first round after three rounds of action. The next MFC event will take place at the Shaw Conference Centre in Downtown Edmonton on June 22nd, and the Heavyweight championships of the MFC will be on the line as Scott Junk competes for the title.
