The fighters and staff of the Maximum Fighting Championship did their part in helping Edmontons less fortunate by landing a knockout punch on hunger. At the February 11 open training session featuring Jason MacDonald and Mike Maurer, a lunch was served to the local media who attended (CTV Edmonton, The Score, Edmonton Sun and Edmonton Journal) as well to sponsors (TSI, JP Gaming, Martin G. Schulz, Liquid Ice Energy Drink) and fans. Thanks to the great efforts of MFC treasurer Manon Pavelich, Shirley from Wooly Bullys Pub and the host Crowne Plaza hotel, the MFC was able to deliver more than $1,000 worth of food to the Bissel Centre which assists in the needs of Edmontons inner-city residents. We have wanted to do something for a long time which would help out so many people who are in need, said Manon Pavelich. We had such a great day with everyone at the Crowne Plaza that we felt it was the perfect time to share some of that joy with others who are less fortunate. The people at the Bissel Centre were very appreciative of our donation and we couldnt have been happier to be able to supply so many people with at least one good meal during the winter. The open training session was a true success for the MFC and the buzz around Edmonton and the entire Canadian MMA scene is growing in anticipation for the March 10 show at the Shaw Conference Centre. The fight card features a main event of Jason MacDonald and UFC veteran Patrick Cote in a battle for the MFC world middleweight championship as well as a light heavyweight superfight between Mike Maurer, the Edmonton Eskimos running back who was named Most Outstanding Canadian at the 2005 Grey Cup, and Darren Apels. Tickets for MFC 9 No Excuses are available through Ticketmaster.
