In the main event of the evening, former MMA Bad Boy Bobby Hoffman stepped up on less than 2 weeks notice to take on the 300 lb. plus Eric Pele for the KOTC unlimited belt. Both fighters looked to land from the clinch using knees and dirty boxing, with not much landing. Towards the end of the first round, Hoffman nearly finished Pele with a takedown and strikes from the side mount, but the bell proved to be Pele’s best friend as he was saved in the first.

In the second, Hoffman appeared to have no more gas as he was taken down and hit with countless blows to the head by Eric Pele, forcing referee Herb Dean to stop the bout at 2:55 of round 2. Urijah Faber vs. Hiroyuki Abe
In what was supposed to be the next step in terms of opponents for Urijah Faber, Hiroyuki Abe looked like just another speed bump in the road for the explosive young 145 lb fighter. Abe was able to keep the fight standing from the clinch for as long as he could, but as with any fight with Urijah, it is inevitable that you will find yourself on bottom. Urijah was able to land vicious elbows and strikes from the clinch position to force referee Cecil Peeples to stop the fight at 2:37 of the second round, giving Urijah the win in impressive fashion. Many fans want to see Urijah take on the likes of Pequeno and the Shooto division, however, this writer would personally rather see a match up of Cole Escovedo and Urijah Faber before thinking about Japan… Marvin Eastman vs. Jason Lambert
Any fan in the Buffalo Bills casino would not have to think twice about what was the fight of the night, and what a fight it was! Marvin Eastman looked to be on a mission to redeem his last two loses in the UFC, while Jason Lambert was on a win streak of his own and looking to make a name for himself with a win over a UFC veteran. Throughout the first half of the fight, Eastman was able to tee off on Lambert at will, even throwing him to the canvass several times. Lambert to his credit was able to stand up every time and try and reverse the position, but was unable to do so and settled for throwing shots in the clinch. Lambert finally got the takedown he was looking for in the third round and nearly finished the fight with a rear naked choke. However, Eastman escaped and the fight went to the judges hands. 29-28, 29-28, and 28-29 giving Jason Lambert the split decision. I personally was in shock to hear this, as I felt it was easily a unanimous decision victory in Eastman’s favor, as did many people around the ring that I asked. Regardless, Jason Lambert gets the win over the UFC veteran and keeps his streak of quality wins alive. Joe Frainee vs. Frankie Bollinger Frankie Bollinger, the seasoned KOTC veteran, has been known to take out his opponents rather easily without a sweat. However, Joe Frainee had other ideas on this night and was able to punish Bollinger for the entire fight. Bollinger looked to get the takedown, but was unable to get inside the range of Frainee. Feeling frustrated, Bollinger jumped to guard, which seemed to seal his fate as he was grounded and pounded until Frainee was pulled off at 3:44 of the first round, giving Bolinger his first loss in the KOTC ring.

In under card action, Miguel Gutierez landed a nice armbar to get the victory over Fernando Gonzales at of the first round, Manny Tapia TKO’s Richard Goodman at 1:42 of the second, Hector Ramirez viciously KO’s Kendall Groves at only 1:08 of the first round with a right hook, and David Terrell (not the one you are thinking of!) wins by Unanimous decision over Ray Perales. –MMARR-
