According to an FEG press release, former Korean ssirum grand champion Hong Man Choi will be making his third foray into the world of mixed martial arts as he takes on the slumping Mirko Filipovic at K-1 Dynamite.
Choi, 1-1, has had a fairly tough road in MMA facing off against Fedor Emelianenko in only his second MMA bout, and in his third will face off against former top-ten heavyweight Mirko Cro Cop Filipovic.
Filipovic has had an up-and-down career in recent years and is coming off a disappointing no contest against Allistair Overeem. In a fight Filipovic was clearly losing, the politician/fighter was struck in the groin by an errant knee and could not /would not continue to earn a no contest. Many believe he used the groin strike as a way to get out of losing the bout and while no one will ever know for sure, his reputation has taken a beating.
In fact a rematch was offered to him, and despite The Demolition Man reportedly signing the deal, Filipovic reportedly scuttled the potential match-up and will instead face Choi in Japans biggest fight night of the year.
"Mirko seems to be in a slump recently," said Choi, "and I have no problem fighting with him on the ground."
If he follows the same game plan that Overeem did against the former Pride champion he may find success against an opponent that will have a 1 foot height disadvantage and 125lb weight disadvantage.

The event will take place on New Years Eve at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.
