Former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski will face off against
reigning IFL heavyweight champion Roy Nelson on EliteXCs upcoming
Saturday Night Fights card. In a joint announcement, CBS, EliteXC, and
Trumps Affliction Entertainment confirmed the fight which will take
place on October 4.
Coming on the heels of an announcement that Affliction had cancelled their October 11 card, Arlovski, who was to have faced Josh Barnett on the main event will instead take a step down in competition and fight Roy Nelson. While it may appear to be short notice for The Pitbull to take this fight with only two weeks to go before the bout, he was in a full training camp prior to this announcement for the aforementioned bout with another former UFC heavyweight champion.
In a press release head of the Live Fight Division of EliteXC Jeremy Lappen said in a statement, "This is yet another testament to EliteXCs willingness to work with other MMA promotions to bring the best possible fights to the broadest possible audience."
With the EliteXC organization going through some very public financial issues it appears they are pulling out all the stops in an attempt to make this upcoming show the most successful it can be. Even with strong ratings it is unknown at this time what the future will hold for the ailing organization that bought out the King of the Cage, and Icon promotions before aligning themselves with CBS.
CBS ELITEXC SATURDAY NIGHT FIGHTS, will be broadcast live from the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla. on Saturday, Oct. 4 (9:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on CBS.
The tentative card is as follows.
Kimbo Slice vs. Ken Shamrock
Jake Shields vs. Paul Daley
Andrei Arlovski vs. Roy "Big Country" Nelson
Gina Carano vs. Kelly Kobold
Murilo "Ninja" Rua vs. Benji Radach
