With the resignation of Randy Couture it is difficult to imagine the
UFC without one of its biggest stars. Despite his age Couture remains
one of the top fighters on the planet and has done more in the sport of
MMA than most will ever dream of. Very few of the well known current UFC
fighters including current and past champions, can match the level of success Couture has acheived. Be sure of one thing, despite what
anyone will tell you his loss will be felt in the UFC, if in fact he does not return. However,
dont be so certain we have seen the last of Couture in the UFC.

Over a month has passed since Mirkos debut in the UFC 67. Ive seen almost 30-odd UFC shows, but this is the first time Ive seen so many Japanese press reporters. Chalk it up to the "star power" of Mirko Crocop. Any and all of their questions were directed to Mirko - not a single question about the UFC. In either case, not a second went by that the local press wasnt using to hound Mr. Crocop.

Shortly after UFC 54: Boiling Point, Matt Lindland was surprisingly released from his contract with the UFC even though he was considered the #1 middleweight contender. Lindland was coming off a victory over Joe Doerkson that only further cemented his status as the heir apparent to Rich Franklins title. However, during the weigh-ins he wore a shirt advertising an online sports book that the UFC deemed as breaching his contract because of their sponsorship terms. Was the UFC looking for a technicality that would prevent Lindland from facing their new middleweight poster boy?

Sherdog.com is reporting that UFC president Dana White has confirmed a third showdown between rivals Tito Ortiz and Ken Shamrock, which is tentatively scheduled for October as the main event on an upcoming Spike TV fight night. There was some suspicion that the UFC was contemplating such a move because of the controversy that plagued the rematch in July that Shamrock lost via TKO, but protested it was a premature stoppage by referee Herb Dean.

Chuck Liddell to fight Wanderlei Silva? That sounded a lot like wishful thinking just two days ago but today, the sun seems to be shining a little brighter in MMA land. UFC president and co owner Dana White announced on PPV that he, along with Pride President Nobuyuki Sakakibara, struck a deal to bring the Pride Middleweight (205 lbs Light Heavyweight in America) Champion to fight the Iceman Chuck Liddell.
