It seems much is happening in the great white north so lets get caught up on all things Canadian MMA. -Arnold Lim- TKO - 2 shows in one month? TKO will be holding 2 shows in the same month. It could be the first time in MMA history that a major organization has put on two shows so close together but TKO president Stephane Patry assures everyone, It will be a new era in Canadian MMA and will pick up right where UCC 12 left off. He went on to say he is proud of what he did in between but is very excited about the TKO 19 show, that will take place on November 26 or 27th. Not much is known about TKO 18 or 19 at this point but they will be held three weeks apart in November. TKO 18 on November 6th and TKO 19 on the 26th or 27th. The big event is rumored to be happening at the Molson Centre in Montreal which also houses the NHL team the Montreal Canadians. TKO 19 is rumored to be the biggest card in the history of TKO and the list of names that have been rumored is huge. Rumored to be potential fighters on the card are Sean Sherk, Jens Pulver, Pete Spratt, Duane Bang Ludwig, John Alessio, Jeremy Horn, Laverne Clark, Jason Black, Rich Franklin, Travis Wiuff, Anthony Fryklund, and Denis Kang. The TKO 18 card on Nov 6th that will take place in Sherbrooke Quebec which is a 45 minute drive East of Montreal looks to be as follows. Card subject to change. David Goulet vs. Steve Duquette Jacob Conliffe vs. Yan Pellerin Todd Gouwenberg vs. Rob Macdonald - HW Title Sam Stout vs. TBA Shawn Davidson vs TBA Stephane Vigneault vs.TBA Thierry Quennville vs. TBA Ryan Diaz vs. TBA Kultar Gill vs. TBA Free Fights on MMA Ring Report TKO president Stephane Patry and MMA Ring Report have worked out an agreement to show various TKO fights that have not been seen before on MMA Ring Report. The best part is that it will 100% Free. The first one will be Jonathan Goulet vs. "Knockdown" Joey Brown in what could be one of the fastest KOs in the history of the sport. The first video featuring Goulet was shot by his sister on a hand held camcorder but most future fights will be produced by TKO. The second fight that will be featured for free on MMA Ring Report will be Mark Colangelo vs. Mark Bocek. The return of MFC ? Mark Pavelich will be making his long awaited return to the world of MMA doing a co promotion with TKO President Stephane Patry. THe show will be a TKO event and will take place in the Month or February in Edmonton Alberta. We can expect past MFC veterans that have been out of the MMA game of late to make thier returns as well. XFC Bill Mahood is back with the XFC 3 and seems to be well on its way to being the best XFC ever. The card is scheduled for Prince George, British Columbia on October the 16th. Dennis Hallman was originally slated to fight in the main event against Chris Fontaine but had to withdraw due to scheduling conflicts and the new main event will be Chris Fontaine vs. Buck Greer. In other big news Jason MacDonald who is the AFC champion in Florida will be coming back to Canada to fight Team Quest fighter Matt Horwich who recently won his bout with Anthony Rea at Apex 1. Ironically Rea is the same fighter that MacDonald beat to take the AFC championship and this fight should end up being a good one. On the bad news front the PG fightclub, that all the Prince George fighters train out caught fire and burnt down. All proceeds from the XFC 3 card will be used to help refinance the gym so anyone who is in the area, it is for a good cause so come out and support your local event. MMARRs own The Sushiboy Arnold Lim will be there to take in all the action and photograph the event so look for a full report including photos shortly after the event has taken place. The card looks to be as follows, card is subject to change. Jason The Athlete MacDonald vs. Matt Horwich Chris Fontaine vs. Buck Greer Chris Peak vs. Kristof Szozinski Jason Zazulenchuk vs. Mike Ridlind Jeff Sutherland vs. Daniel White WFF The WFF show that was to take place on September 24 had to be cancelled. First off the Croatian Cultural centre which was to house the event had another MMA event scheduled the week before so WFF Promoter Jason Towns decided to move the venue to avoid a conflict with his home town of Kelowna a possibility but a suitable location could not be found in time. With the Shut up and Fight/ Evolution Submission Grappling and Abu Dhabi event taking place one week before in Vernon which is only a 30 minute drive away, another conflict was not what he was looking for and he has decided to scrap the September show altogether and is now hard at work on the next show. A date has yet to be secured but a show before Christmas is in their plans. New Amateur MMA organization There is a new MMA promotion in the east and no it is not in Montreal. This time it will be in Winnipeg and it is being put on by fighter Krystof Soszinski who most recently defeated Lee Mein at WFF 7. Ultimate Cage Wars will take place in Winnipeg Manitoba at the Winnipeg Convention Centre. The date at this time is unknown. They have attended 3 auditions now and Kultar Gill especially could close to landing a very significant role in the film. Some of the other actors could include Michael McDonald, Jerome LeBanner and Gary Goodridge. Todd Gouwenberg is rumored to be fighting on the TKO 19 card against Rob MacDonald for the TKO heavyweight championships. He last competed against Iccho Larenas at TKO 16 winning by TKO. Team Tompkins Rob Maximus MacDonald is already well into preparations for his Heavyweight title shot against Todd Gouwenberg of Lance Gibsons Pankration team and rounding out his striking to go with his strong Greco Roman wrestling skills. He is tentatively scheduled to be fighting for the championship belt at TKO 18 which will take place in November of this year. He is also preparing to go to the Pride try outs in Los Angeles California along with Mark The Machine Hominick, Jacob Conliffe and Nick Rondinelli. Both Rondinelli and Hominick are also strong possibilities for Sven Beans Ring of Fire show which will take place in Colorado. Sam Hands of Stone Stout who attended the K-1 Tryouts that took place a few months back has heard from K-1 and is in preparation potential K-1 debut that could take place this fall. Stout is taking the preparation very seriously and has already doubled his training regiment. The Ronin Carlos Newton himself will be returning to the ring very soon and he will be attending the Team Thomkins school to sharpen up his striking skills, and lend some of his grappling genius at the same time. Apex The second Apex show will be in Jan of Feb a date has yet to be decided but despite the low turnout of the last show Apex matchmaker Alex Capporicci is excited about the upcoming show and says it will take place in the same venue at the Pierre Charbaneau Centre in Montreal. Mr. Capporicci went on to say Basically turnout wasnt as good as hoped but everyone who came out left happy, this is far from our last show, we didnt have as much local talent as we should have and we will move on from here. The fighters were all awesome, and the DVDs [are] coming out as soon as possible, hopfully within next couple months. Rumored to be back to fight for Apex 2 are Steve Berger, Ivan Menjivar, Matt Horwitch, Fritz paul and basically guys who won. Mr. Capporicci is also hoping that they will be a possibility for Canadian PPV. UGC On October 30th the UGC will be holding their 9th show, at the Medley in Montreal. The tentative card looks to be as follows. Ivan Menjivar is scheduled to headline the card and the promoters are actively looking for an opponent for the slot. Ivan Menjivar vs. TBA Corri Macdonald against Eric Biaulieau Greg Compton vs. Fred Poirier Fritz Paul vs. TBA Ricardo Francois vs. Mark Marshalak Kevin Duquitte vs. Richard Ho Epic MMA Justin Bruckman and Antonio Carvalho have been added to what is quickly becoming a very stacked MMA team. Both fighters from Ontario have been added to team Epic which is spearheaded by manager Greg Allen. Mr. Allen has been hard at it, already providing both fighters with opportunities to fight with Bruckman a Shooto opportunity in Japan against Yoichi Fukumoto on Nov 12th, and Carvalho against UFC veteran Jeff Curran in the Ironheart Crown event on Nov 20th, which is also a Shooto sanctioned event. MMA Ring Report Fighter of the night. MMA Ring Report recently handed out the second and third editions of the MMARR Fighter of the Night award. The second award went to Patrick Cote who defeated Bill Mahood back at TKO 16 and the third to Sam Stout of Team Thompkins who pulled his win out of the fire and went on to defeat Steve Claveau in impressive fashion. There were so many fighters that deserved the award and TKO 17 was the most difficult to choose in the short history of the award. Shane Rice, Fabio Holanda, Ryan Diaz, and all the winners were very impressive in their respective fights. Video of the awards being given out can be found here as well.
