One of the things that I notice all the time when training is that when you train alive and you're whole routine is geared towards performance; you begin to realize that it is a roller coaster ride. Another year is in the books and like last year, and the year before, it could be argued that it was the best year ever for MMA around the globe. I have compiled a Top five best list for the year 2003. This is a list that reflects my own personal opinion is is mostly compiled of fights that I have personally watched with my own eyes. |

# 1: We've discussed grip strength training in a previous column, and I thought it would be beneficial to show a few photos of some of the various grip exercises being performed. Just forget the part about me being an old man, and GO WORK OUT! |

In the early UFCs it seemed one of the driving philosophical questions behind whole concept of the show was, Which Martial art was the best, regardless of size strength and weight? Which art would reign supreme above and beyond the physical limitations of their practitioners? In the end, it all came to a crashing halt and it is a well known fact that size and weight play an integral part in the everyday workings in the life of the modern day fighter. |

As long as any martial artist remains either in the past or the future there will never be true freedom from what those illusions pretend to offer. This illusion is the ego and is the main driving force for why so many martial artists never truly experience the wonderful gifts the martial arts has to offer. |
