Peak Experiences
MMA News Written by Rodney "Chico" King
Wednesday, 28 July 2004

ImageThe other night I was talking to some of my students about the correct technique and developing power in their punches. Out of this discussion I pointed out that the way you deliver the technique is important but I also discussed the feeling you get when it is right. I mentioned that I just know when a jab was good or a combination; likewise I could just feel when it was bad.

Street vs. Sport Nonsense
MMA News Written by Rodney King
Wednesday, 28 July 2004

ImageI was in the process of writing an article on the "Street vs. Sport debate" for my column. As I began I remembered the article I had read written by my Coach Matt Thornton. After reading it again, I realized that why re-write something that had already been said so well. So I have decided to publish it for all of those who have not read it.

The Gladiators are dead!
MMA News Written by Rodney “Chico” King
Wednesday, 28 July 2004

ImagePeople training against opponents who don’t resist back, doing forms against imaginary opponents, movements that are so fanciful that they relate more to dance than fighting, punching with your hand on your hip, mystical chi, and of course the deadly Death Touch!

Performance Integrity
MMA News Written by Rodney "CHICO" King
Wednesday, 28 July 2004

ImageOne of the things that I notice all the time when training is that when you train alive and you're whole routine is geared towards performance; you begin to realize that it is a roller coaster ride. Your performance is never the same from day to day. On one day you can wrestle, box and do MMA with a group of training partners and feel that you dominated every aspect of each event, just to find a few days later doing the exact same routine that the whole thing has been reversed.

After missing a month, we are back with the third edition of the Canadian Corner. Much has transpired since the last edition and we need to get caught up on all things Canadian MMA. In terms of events, things have slowed down a little with no TKO event till September, but with the resurfacing of the WFF, and the new Evolution/Shut up and Fight event it looks like it could be a busy fall, let us move upwards and onwards. -Arnold Lim-

Another year is in the books and like last year, and the year before, it could be argued that it was the best year ever for MMA around the globe. I have compiled a Top five best list for the year 2003. This is a list that reflects my own personal opinion is is mostly compiled of fights that I have personally watched with my own eyes.

# 1: We've discussed grip strength training in a previous column, and I thought it would be beneficial to show a few photos of some of the
various grip exercises being performed. Just forget the part about me being an old man, and GO WORK OUT!

Heart or Hazard
MMA News Written by Arnold "The Sushiboy" Lim
Thursday, 21 August 2003

In the cold reality of our beloved sport of mixed martial arts when is it “O.K” to tap out? When is it “O.K” for your corner man to throw in the towel? Is it only "O.K" when you are in a position that you have absolutely no chance of escaping, and the ref doesn't seem to want to step in? Is it ever “OK”?
